Like all beautiful lands, Kerala too has
a history steeped in mythology and lore. Belief has it that
Lord Vishnu, reincarnated as Parashurama, prayed to the Gods
for a place to perform his penance or yajna after a ferocious
battle. But, the Gods denied him his wish. In a fit of rage,
Parashurama threw his axe into the sea and commanded the water
to retreat. The land that rose from the sea became Kerala.
Traverse the backwaters of Kerala in our houseboats and you
will see sights that will fill your soul. Women washing their
long hair while attempting to protect their modesty, children
running along the banks, waving their innocent hands and many
an industry supported and nourished by these very waters. Here
is a people and a way of life that has witnessed the passage
of time and has yet remained unchanged. |
